About
Built for hunters who study the shore.
Toothhound is the world’s most complete shark tooth hunting companion: live tide and wind based Hunt Scores, dossiers for 75 verified sites across 6 continents, an AI tooth identifier, and a private logbook that lives on your device.
Our promise
- Every dossier is sourced. If a site is in our atlas, the formation, epoch, and star species came from peer-reviewed paleontology, state geological surveys, or first-hand verified field reports.
- Hunt Scores are math, not vibes. Tide range, lunar spring proximity, daylight window, onshore wind stir, and storm exposure — all computed from NOAA tide stations and Open-Meteo, with the model published on our methodology page.
- Your finds stay yours. The logbook is stored locally in your browser’s IndexedDB. No account, no cloud, no tracking of what you find. See our privacy policy.
- Heritage sites are off-limits. Sites flagged heritage-only exist for study and observation, not collecting. We label them clearly and we mean it.
Editorial process
Each location dossier carries a verification tier:
- local-verifiedField-checked in the last 24 months by a contributor who has hunted the site.
- compiledSynthesized from cited public sources (USGS, state surveys, peer-reviewed literature, museum collections).
Tip line
Found an error? Hunted a site we don’t list? Want to add local-verified status to a compiled dossier? Get in touch. Every report is read.
Ethics
Hunt small, hunt legal, and leave the beach better than you found it. Always check current state, federal, and private-property regulations — they change, and Toothhound is a planning tool, not a permit. When in doubt: pack out trash, fill the holes, and report any vertebrate fossil to the local museum.
