A small urban creek that cuts through the Yorktown Formation as it winds through Greenville and East Carolina University. Green Springs Park is the most popular access point — locals and ECU geology students have been finding small Pliocene shark teeth in its gravel bars for decades. Teeth are typically 0.25–1 in (think tiger, sand tiger, mako, the occasional small meg) — this is a 'lots of small teeth' creek, not a trophy spot.
Solid hunting day. Moderate NE winds (11 mph).
Next 3 days: Tomorrow is the pick (82); today runs cooler at 60.
This site does not depend on a tidal low. Hunt during the coolest, brightest part of the day and use the wind and conditions notes below.
Impact on visibility and stir-up over the next 5 days.
The Hunt Score blends tide range, lunar phase, daylight timing, recent stir, wind setup, and surf.
Solid. Reliable productivity expected.
We are deliberate about which factors to include. These are not currently in the model:
If you think we should add one of these, log a hunt with notes — every rated outcome helps us decide which signals actually predict tooth count.
Walk the creek after a hard rain has scoured the bed and dropped back to safe wade-able levels (1-3 days post-storm). Sift gravel bars on the inside of bends and at riffle tail-outs with a 1/4 in mesh. Look in the lag of dark phosphate pebbles — teeth ride with them.
Green Springs Park is a free public Greenville city park; park at the playground lot and walk down to the creek. The creek itself crosses public, ECU, and private parcels — stay in the public park and the public right-of-way under road bridges.
Surface collecting of fossils from the streambed is generally tolerated on public park land in NC; do not dig into stream banks (erosion + private-property issues) and do not enter ECU property without permission.
Trophy = headline find · Rare = real score · Uncommon = some trips · Common = most trips.
The beachcomber's bonus round — what else the geology gives up.
